  • You will experience pain for a while after this procedure.
  • There have been cases where this procedure left a scarring and induced sleep apnea.
  • The uvula is important in the pronunciation of words in some languages like Arabic and Native American languages.

Pros

  • This procedure is very efficient.
  1. Laser-Assisted uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP) is variation of Uvulopalatoharyngoplasty that is done by laser. In this procedure the laser is used to vaporize the vulva. It is the most effective laser surgery for snoring.

Pros

  • This procedure is considered safer and more economical.
  • Unlike, Uvulopalatoharyngoplasty it can be repeated until the desired result is obtained.

Cons

  • The post operations pain experienced is still the same as theUvulopalatoharyngoplasty procedure.
  • Since this procedure is usually repeated till the desired result is achieved you have be ready to endure the post operative pain each time.
  1. Somnoplasty, also known as Radio Frequency Tissue Ablation (RFTA) involves the use of a needle electrode to discharge energy waves that shrinks excessive tissues in the throat.

Pros

  • This procedure is fast.
  • It can be performed in an out-patient clinic.
  • It is less painful.

Cons

  • It is a new procedure and is still not widely practiced.
  • It requires several treatment sessions until the desired result is achieved.
  1. Septoplasty is another surgery to correct snoring that involves the correction of nasal septum deviation. The nasal septum is a thin wall dividing the nose in two. In some humans it is not centered and is deviated to one side of the nose there by inducing snoring.
  2. Pillar procedure also known as palatal implantation is a procedure where tiny plastic implants are placed in the soft palate through a syringe. The aim is to harden the soft palate so as to reduce the vibrations of snoring.
